The New Bedford
Hotel Apartments was once a luxury hotel with a glass-enclosed roof garden and a
ballroom overlooking the harbor. The building was converted to public housing in
1972 and has been overseen by the New Bedford Housing Authority since that time.
Much of the building exterior dates to the original construction in 1921. The
aged exterior building materials became deteriorated and contributed to leakage
in recent years. A project was initiated to repair and/or replace much of the
building’s weatherproofing systems, as well as to complete structural repairs.
As the consultant to New Bedford Housing Authority, Peterson Associates
conducted a complete envelope investigation as required to develop an approriate
project scope. Various alterations in the work scope were made to promote an
effective finished product while staying within the established project budget.
The project scope included removal and replacement of windows, roofing and
siding, as well as miscellaneous masonry and structural repairs.
