The Lincoln
School is a multi-story, solid wythe masonry structure constructed circa 1900
with a substantial renovation and addition in the 1950’s. The structure was
plagued by the chronic leakage through the exiusting roof system, skylights, and
windows. The existing wood framed, double hung windows were severly deteriorated
due to the years of neglect.
Peterson Associates scope of work included the design of new double-hung windows
and related renovations. The deteriorated sheet metal cornice was replaced with
a glass fiber reinforced polyester (gfrp) cornice. Forms for the gfrp cornice
were cast from a section of the existing sheet metal cornice to obtain a
historically accurate section. Various masonry repairs and a new single ply roof
membrane were also installed. Renovations were designed by Peterson Associates
which ended the water infiltration into the building, as well as maintain the
buildings historical integrity.
