The Boa Vista
Elderly Towers Complex in New Bedford, MA is an 8 story concrete, steel and
masonry structure, constructed circa 1972. The New Bedford Housing Authority
retained Peterson Associates to evaluate the entire building envelope (roofs,
exterior walls, window systems and doors) and provide a recommended scope of
repairs to stabilize the building envelope and return the building to its
original weathertight condition. Peterson Associates prepared a detailed report
outlining the conditions and causes of deterioration to the building envelope
components, with a recommended scope of work, listed in option format, along
with the anticipated construction costs. From the various options presented in
the report, the Housing Authority was able to choose the most appropriate and
most cost effective work for the Boa Vista Apartments. The scope of work
designed by Peterson Associates included repair of the existing elastomeric (EPDM)
roof membrane, removal and replacement of the metal window assemblies, repair of
the brick masonry veneer walls, exterior door replacement, and associated work.
